"Fourth of July"

Wed Jun 29, 2011 9:39 pm

We don't celebrate the 4th of July, we celebrate Independence Day. Make no mistake about it. Promotions that mention "the 4th of July" being celebrated instead of Independence Day really anger me. It is unpatriotic. Some say semantics, I say bullshit. It's disrespectful to those that fought for our freedom.

OK, I'm done venting.

With all due respect I disagree. There are several dates that are associated with specific events in history. When those dates are mentioned you don't have to think about what year or what event someone is talking about.

Dec. 7 a date that will live in infamy.
9/11/01.
June 6Th.

Is mentioning these dates disrespectful to those who died? I don't think so. I'm patriotic as well and respect history and the military. Independence day is a reference to the signing of the declaration of independence and not to the war or and military event. That is not to say that the ongoing war was not responsible.

Agree with both points but would like to add that when they push July 4th I think they work on the premise that people understand what that day stands for.

My brothers Birthday?
Just busting your stones, I'm sure you mean 7th...but the 17th is a dark day for most of mankind.

Celebrating by tapping a Wit with Raspberries and blueberries, that was also brewed on Memorial Day to top it off. My LHBS owner even dug threw his packing slips to see if he had ordered any Liberty hops, we thought it would just push the pun farther.
