Re: Best method of getting wort into primary fermenter

I use a Jamil-o-chiller with an output about an inch off the bottom of the kettle. No pickup of any sort, just the hole in the side of the kettle. I use only pellet hops (which flow right along with the wort) and plan my recipes to leave that inch or so of wort in the kettle and still get the full 10 gallons at the end of it all.
What's on tap: Cream Ale, Imperial Blonde

Or is it just mounted high enough that you don't have to worry about such things? I'm currently just using an auto-siphon and it works pretty well... but like most of you here, I'm always looking to upgrade something. :D

i dont use anything. had a bazooka screen and used it just once. 2 oz of pellet hops clogged it up solid. not fun. my valve was as low as i could get it. wich was the width of my washer and the curve at the bottom of the pot... so probably about 3/4 inch from the bottom. if your worried about crap making its way into the fermentor jusy keep using the hop bag. everything else is negligible in my opinion. its gonna sink to the bottom of your fementer after a wile. just avoid sucking it out of there.
